Umamaheswaranar College of Education was established in 2005 by missionary pioneers in the field of education, to cater to the needs of graduates who aspire to become teachers. It grew out of the karanthai Tamil Sangam, which was one of the pioneering Tamilvel Karanthai Umamaheswaranar Arts Colleges in the city of Thanjavur. Date of Establishment: 16.11.2005 Affiliated to the TamilNadu Teachers Education University, Chennai Recognised by NCTE for B.Ed. vide Letter Number F.TN/B.Ed/SRO/NCTE/2005-2006/4022 dt. 16.11.2005. It is affiliated to the TamilNadu Teachers Education Unviersity, recognized by NCTE, UGC and Government of Tamil Nadu .The College conducts academic programmes leading to B.Ed.,degree participating in welfare and community activities and organising educational extension work. Apart from the college of education, we are having two practicing school - Umamaheswaranar Higher Secondary School and Radhakrishana School, karanthai.
It was in May 2003 that the Karanthai Tamil Sangam suggested at its meeting in karanthai that a training college be established for graduate teachers of karanthai areas of Thanjavur. On the basis of this eventful recommendation, the Umamaheswaranr College of Education was founded in the name of Thiru.S.Ramanathan, a distinguished Secretary of Karanthai Tamil Sangam with the initial support of President and Members of Karanthai Tamil Sangam.
Umamaheswaranar College of Education is a pioneer institution in education which aims at”excel through innovative teaching and Learning ", fostering professional values, developing learning in modern Education system among students who have a flair for the ideals of Education. The motto of the college is “Thondu,Tamil, Development ” implying that knowledge when shared with others illuminates ourselves.
The mission of Umamaheswaranar College of Education is to achieve excellence in education through holistic development incorporating academic excellence, professional competence, human values for social harmony, providing quality teacher education for the rural and unreached students.
